Midwest Distance Gala

As usual, the Flashes had a great time at the Midwest Distance Festival (formerly called Midwest Distance Gala, but now under new management).

Our fab-four freshmen had a ton of fun, learned a few things, and ran well. Robbie Talhlem definitely earned race-of-the-day honors with a PR Mile.

Jason Crist got out well, but the rabbit slowed up a bit on lap two. When the rabbit stepped off the track, Jason was put in the lead of a field of 7 sub-9:00 2-Milers. He led all of lap three, but the field got the best of him on lap four and he ended up 8th in a national-level elite race.

Freshmen Mile to 1600M Conversions:

Talhelm 4:52.44
O'Malley 4:52.96
Atwal 5:00.22
Spoor 5:11.02

STATE CHAMPION

Congratulations to Jason Crist for winning the IHSAA State Championship in the 1600M Run. Jason's time of 4:09.12 solidifies him as one of the best runners in Indiana history. The splits I got for Jason are as follows (they might be a bit wrong because I was screaming my head off the entire race):

By 200: 30.1 - 62.8 - 94.9 - 2:07.2 - 2:39.3 - 3:10.8 - 3:40.6 - 4:09.1.

By 400: 62.8, 64.4, 63.6, 58.3

Last 300 was 42.5.

Last 200 was 28.5.

Thanks to Todd Nolting for the video of the race that can be found here.

Congratulations also goes out to our 4x800 and 4x400 Qualifiers: Dakota Gray, Shane Wright, Aaron Nanavaty, Trevor Rapp, Johnnie Taylor, John Howard, and Jason Crist. The 4x800 finished 23rd and the 4x400 was 27th in the State of Indiana (over 300 schools are in the IHSAA).
