Early-Bird Results

Thank you to everyone for their work in putting on a great meet this weekend. Many coaches and participants were quick to compliment us on a well-run meet and this is all thanks to our volunteers.

Special thanks to Coach Bannon and Coach Hoskins for volunteering to start the meet and keeping it running on-time and thanks to Coach Kellison for Clerking and Checking in Athletes. These three ran the show and made me look like I actually knew what I was doing.

Also thanks to the team and parents for moving bleachers, posting signs and heat sheets, making sure everyone got their bib #s, and selling spikes. It made me really proud to see everyone come together in order to pull this thing off.

To top it all off, the boys ran GREAT! See splits below. Performances of the day came from Joey Butcher in the first race of his life on two weeks of training doubling 2:23, 5:23, Austin Presnell with a PR 10:17 in the 3200 in December, Brad Loeffler who PR'ed in both the 1600 and 3200 in the same race (5:52, 12:25), Zach McCauley PR in the 1600 of 5:08 after running the 1200, Evan Marrero under 5:00 in December off a 2:15 800, Lake Jones for doubling 5:12/5:07, and Big Stave for breaking 5:00 twice (he ran 5:13 last year at this meet in just one event)! We have plenty to be excited about this season.

The next major event we host is the FC Distance Showcase on Friday, April 15th. This is the second best track meet in the state of Indiana (next to State, of course) and contains a 4x800, Freshman Mile, 4x400, and the "Miracle Mile" which is quickly becoming one of the hottest miles in the nation, hosting many of the top mile times on Dyestat last year.

Let's keep the ball rolling by running over winter break!!! Thanks again!

Jason Crist: State Runner-Up!

Jason Crist had his best race yet on Saturday, placing 2nd at the IHSAA State Championships. He has now cemented himself in as the second best Flash in State Finals History!

Jason competed up front all day and made a great move 800M out to pull away. Finishing into a 400M headwind allowed Brad Hess of FW Carroll to reel Jason back in, but Crist proved to be too tough, pulling out the runner-up spot and earning the ring! Congratulations, Jason!

State Meet Next Weekend!

Well, the season ended on a sour note for the Flashes Boys XC Team at the semi-state on Saturday. Unfortunately, we ended up finishing where we were seeded to finish--7th and one spot from qualifying for the state meet. This is the second year in a row we have ended up in this rough spot.

This is no doubt the best team FCXC has ever had not to qualify for State, and while the sting of being so close to going two years in a row will take awhile to wear off, the future looks very bright for FC Boys Distance.

We had 18 guys under 18:00 this year, 8 of which broke 17:00. 3 Other guys were under 17:10. The real kicker is that every single one of these 18 guys returns next year but one!

While Jason Crist's electrifying last K (2:49) was amazing to watch as he placed 2nd in the semi-state in a PR of 15:14, perhaps the biggest highlights of the day came from the "time trial" where Austin Presnell ran a PR of 16:55, and Brad Loeffler and Eric Catlow finally broke down barriers they have been striving for all season. "XC Ted" rounded out his season with a GIANT PR as well!

Hopefully everyone will make it out to see Jason Crist run at the State meet in Terre Haute and take hold of his season-long goal: a top-5 finish at the state meet. The girls team, who finished 4th overall today, also needs our support this weekend! Details about the meet can be found on the IHSAA Website.

Full results for the semi-state can be found here.

Details about the XC Banquet and Track Season will be sent out via Email by Coach K and played over the announcements at school.

Regional Champs!

The Flashes won the Regional Championship on Saturday, defeating Warren Central for the second straight meet. Next up: the Carmel semi-state on Saturday! Race time: 10:30 girls, 11:15 boys. Time-trial prior to the meet. Location: Northview Christian Church in Carmel.

For you loyal followers of the FC Distance website, here's a saucy Coach Dunn Preview of the meet (should be a close one...remember only 6 teams advance!). There are many great individuals at this race as well (Brahm, Mudd, etc...) but their teams should not factor in so I have not included them. Clearly, adding the other 13 teams into the meet will change the scores quite a bit, but nonetheless this was a fun way to waste a Thursday:

Sectional Champs!

The Flashes placed 7 runners in the top 10 to win the Sectional meet on Tuesday!

Two other runners ran fast enough in the time trial that we would have had 9 of the top 12 spots in this meet!

To top things off, Jason Crist broke the course record at New Palestine, running 16:00.9.

Flashes Finish 3rd at Conference Indiana; Crist Wins!

Congratulations to Jason Crist for becoming only the third FC runner to win a Conference Indiana XC Title (Aaron Fisher and Adam Green). The Flashes closed the gap on Lawrence Central, but still finished 3rd. Thanks to all of the parents who helped lug the tent up and down the hills of Bloomington!

Frosh Win Marion County! Varsity Close 4th

Congratulations to the Freshmen Flashes for winning the Freshmen County Race! This means that over the past 3 years we have placed 1st-2nd-1st in this race...this certainly bodes well for the future of FCXC!

After what seemed like a great race for the Varsity Flashes, we ended up 4th to some great teams. The good news is that had our 4-man pack led by Matt Shaw run about 15 seconds faster per man, we would have won! The Flashes look forward to Conference this week where we face Columbus North, Lawrence Central, and Bloomington South among other teams. The meet will take place in Bloomington at IU's Public Golf Course.

Flashes Finish 5th at Flashrock

In another week filled with steep competition, the Flashes came out 5th behind 4 teams ranked ahead of us. The good news is that we beat Zionsville, who has beaten us twice this year and we had HUGE breakout races from Andrice Martin and Branden Hearrell. Matt Shaw and Austin Presnell proved they did not lose much with their injuries and the Flashes now go into "Training Mode" with next weekend off. We have much work to do in order to secure a spot in the State Meet. On paper, we are the 7th best team in our semi-state right now and 6 teams make it to the "big dance." Get ready to train, train, train!

Results can be found here.

Extra Ben Davis photos from Brian Nanavaty can be found here.

Photos of Boys and Girls races at Flashrock from Todd Nolting can be found here.

Keri Hearrell has also posted pictures of the first four meets on the Facebook here.

Thanks again to the parents for your help in running the meet, setting up the tent, taking great pictures, and supporting the heck out of these boys! They will need even more support these next few weeks as they are sure to come home from practice tired often!

No Reserve Scores were kept again this week – We had six in the top twenty which is real nice. Last year we had five in the top twenty but only ran four pairs. This is two outstanding back to back years at this race. We only ran one senior in the pairs which means competition for the pairs spots next year could be very heated.
